Keeping Warm in Winter Tips
It’s cold . . . and being an August baby that was born in warm Limpopo, winter and I just don’t get along. The cold weather looks like it will be here for a while longer, so here are some tips to keep your home a little warmer.
The very first obvious thing is to have is a heater. My heater is a life saver, and on most nights when I get home from work, one of the very first things I do is to switch it on, in my room. I stay in a loft townhouse, that is open space, so you can imagine why I am stuck in my room for the most part. Lucky for me, my room is the warmest room in my place, and the heater makes my room warm and is able to contain the heat.
House insulation in cold places is a must, and if you don’t have it in your home, perhaps you can make it as some of those home renovation projects. A home that is well insulated is awesome in winter, as it retains heat for longer. Efficient insulation in the walls and roof is a must for any home, and it can be the difference between enjoying the winter, and freezing.
Window Coverings to keep the cold out
Interior window coverings like curtains and blinds are crucial. Not only do they give you some privacy when you are inside your home, they make great insulators and they help immensely when it comes to keeping the cold out and retaining heat. This can help you preserve electricity and hep you save money on power bills but also help you stay warmer. Best of all, you will be assisting your heater to be more efficient.
Reduce Draft from Windows & Doors
Ever thought of draft proofing your home? Like me, if you have rooms that you are not using, especially cold ones like my spare room, make sure that the doors for those rooms remain shut. Also make sure that the room is closed off, like an under door seal to close the door, which can allow cold air to come through and get to where you are. This also applies to windows, as well. Close off all open spaces that can allow cold air to enter, and you will have a better warmer winter.
Have a glass of wine
A glass of wine at the end of a long day is great, not only will it help you unwind, but it will make you warmer. If you have a significant other, it is even more perfect. You can set the mood for romance, and couple the wine with a great candle lit dinner. Make it sweet, make it perfect and enjoy a glass of wine with your ride or die.
